Dr. Emily Mattingly, Chillicothe Dentist, Installed as 157th Association President

Dr. Emily Mattingly, a general dentist practicing in Chillicothe, was installed as the 157th president of the Missouri Dental Association (MDA) during the Association’s annual House of Delegates meeting at Margaritaville Lake Resort on June 27, 2026.

As MDA president, Dr. Mattingly will advocate for the practice of dentistry in Missouri and help advance the MDA mission, “Helping All Dental Professionals Succeed.” She will preside over quarterly Board of Trustees meetings and represent the MDA at local, state, regional and national meetings, as well as with other oral health stakeholder groups. She also serves on the boards of Missouri Dental Insurance Services, the MDA’s wholly owned insurance agency, and the MDA Foundation, the Association’s charitable subsidiary.

A fourth-generation dentist, Dr. Mattingly graduated from Chillicothe High School in 2005. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 2008 and her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from UMKC in 2012. She then joined her husband and father in the same private practice founded by her grandfather in 1954. Their growing group practice, MSM Dental, focuses on meeting the oral healthcare needs of underserved communities in rural north Missouri.

Dr. Mattingly has been active in the American Dental Association (ADA), MDA and Northwest Dental Society. Prior to becoming MDA president, she served its on Board as President-Elect, Northwest Trustee and New Dentist Committee representative. At the ADA, she currently serves as Chair of the ADA Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention and previously chaired the ADA New Dentist Committee. Since 2018, she has also served as a Missouri Action Team Leader for ADA Lobby Day, advocating on behalf of dentistry and her colleagues in the nation’s capital.

In addition to her leadership roles, Dr. Mattingly has spoken at the MDA Food For Thought program, a lunch-and-learn series for students at Missouri’s three dental schools. She is also a trainer for the MDA Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) program, which provides advanced education and certification opportunities for dental auxiliaries.

Her honors include the ADA 10 Under 10 Award, the MDA Outstanding New Dental Leader Award and the UMKC Young Alum of the Year Award. She is also a member of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy, all of which are honorary dental organizations recognizing professional achievement and service.

Dr. Mattingly enjoys providing care in the community where she grew up and values involvement in organized dentistry at the local, state and national levels. She is passionate about leadership, advocacy and mentoring dental students and new dentists. She and her husband, Dr. David Mattingly, and their three children enjoy traveling, reading, spending time outdoors, attending dental meetings and, most of all, being with family and friends.
