MDA News Updates & Notices

License Renewal Period

It is time for Missouri Dental Board license renewals. The process is the same as the last several renewals: a mailed postcard will have a PIN number to enable online renewal. Dental license fees have been lowered to $100 (hygiene fees are $60). If you have moved since the 2016 renewal, go online to ensure your address on file is correct.

Amalgam Recycling Rule

Now in effect, if you’re an established office you have up to the year 2020 to comply; if you’re a brand new office your requirement to comply is immediate. Watch Amalgam Recycling Rule Webinar: Does This Affect My Practice and read compliance information.

Medicaid Provider Course

Being a Medicaid Provider in an Era of Accountability is a free CE course on February 27, 2019 in Jefferson City. The course will speak to how despite misconceptions and fears associated with being a Medicaid provider, treating this population can be rewarding and not cut adversely into your bottom line.

Medicare: Rescinds Rule

A final CMS rule rescinds a previous rule that would have required dentists providing care and prescriptions for Medicare Advantage patients and Part D beneficiaries to be enrolled in Medicare or to have opted out in order for their services to be covered.

New Third Party Consent Form

The Dental Benefits FAQ now includes a customizable, sample patient payment consent form to meet your particular needs (Question 6). Missouri is one of 35 states that have passed legislation to prevent third party carriers from capping what a doctor can charge a patient for a non-covered service. In certain cases, payers will allow you to charge your patient for non-covered procedures if the patient is willing to sign a consent form.

Working With Family Members

Dental practices are frequently family businesses: spouses working alongside each other or generations of families employed by, or even sharing ownership of, the practice. The success of these blended personal and professional partnerships varies and depends on many factors.
