Share oral health messages with parents, caregivers on importance of good oral hygiene for children.
Now available is a new social media campaign for parents and caregivers of small children created by the Office of Health Start/Early Childhood Learning & Knowledge Center in collaboration with the National Center on Health, Behavioral and Safety.
Because of the pandemic, all Head Start centers had to alter their oral health practices for the children, namely, eliminating the group activity ‘toothbrushing at the table’. The intent of the social media campaign is to provide a means to get oral health messages out to parents and caregivers on the importance of good oral hygiene for children.
The three main messages of the media campaign are:
- Children’s teeth should be brushed 2 times a day,
- Children’s toothbrushes should be stored in separate uncovered containers; and,
- Toothbrushes should be replaced every 3 months.
A specific toolkit has been prepared with instructions for ease of posting on social media. Click here for the link to access the toolkit: ASTDD | Head Start State Dental Hygienist Liaisons Information. (Scroll down to “Resource Materials” on the webpage.)
