Jefferson City, Mo. – Senator Wayne Wallingford (District 27) and Representative Donna Lichtenegger (District 146) were honored with the 2018 Missouri Dental Association (MDA) Legislative Excellence Award on November 2, 2018 at the MDA House of Delegates.
This award honors lawmakers who have been a friend to the dental profession in support of legislation that is a priority for the MDA.
Senator Wallingford was acknowledged for his support of insurance provider reform and both lawmakers were acknowledged for support of sedation services advertisement language.
After the removal of the “addressing the public” section from the Missouri Dental Practice Act, the MDA felt that current statute was not specific enough to regulate the advertisement of sedation services and could potentially leave dentists and the Missourians they treat at risk. The MDA drafted language that, with the cooperation with the Missouri Dental Board, the association amended onto legislation pertaining to professional registration.
Both Senator Wallingford and Representative Lichtenegger filed the amendment and successfully added it into legislation which passed in the last hour of the 2018 legislative session.
