Dr. Emily Mattingly was honored as the MDA Outstanding New Dental Leader on November 8 at the annual Awards Banquet.
Dr. Emily Mattingly, a general dentist in Chillicothe, Mo., was honored as the Missouri Dental Association (MDA) Outstanding New Dental Leader on November 8, 2019 at the Association’s annual House of Delegates and Awards Banquet.
The Outstanding New Dental Leader award is designed to recognize a member of the MDA who has been in practice 10 years or fewer and has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities, professional and ethical conduct, and volunteer activities in their community and organized dentistry.
Dr. Mattingly is especially recognized for her new dentist leadership and volunteer activities within the dental profession, deeming her a rising star among her peers.
She has served the dental profession on the local, state and national level. Locally, Dr. Mattingly has been president of the Northwest Dental Society. This November, she will become the New Dentist Representative on the MDA Board of Trustees. Prior to this, she served as vice chair of the MDA New Dentist Committee from 2015-17 before assuming to membership on the American Dental Association (ADA) New Dentist Committee. She will complete her four year term as Chair of the ADA Committee in 2020. Also at the national level, Dr. Mattingly serves as the ADA New Dentist Liaison to ADPAC Board (political action committee). Legislative advocacy is a priority for Dr. Mattingly, who annually attends the MDA Legislative Day and for the past two years has been an Action Team Leader for the ADA Dentist and Student Lobby Day in Washington, D.C. Dr. Mattingly also volunteers as a speaker at dental schools in Missouri and nationally.
As a volunteer in her community, she is involved in St. Columban Catholic Church, Rotary, PEO (an international philanthropic educational organization) and Tria Sorosis (a local philanthropic organization that supplies money, goods and/or services to the poor).
Dr. Mattingly is a Fellow in the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy, both of which are dental organizations that recognize excellence in the dental profession. In 2018, she received the UMKC Young Alum of the Year Award.
Dr. Mattingly is a fourth generation dentist and practices at McCoy Samples Mattingly Dental Clinic, which has locations Chillicothe, Brookfield, Carrollton and Hamilton. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2012 from the University of Missouri–Kansas City and also from UMKC, a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry in 2008. She is an alumnus of Chillicothe High School.
Dr. Mattingly and her husband, David—also a dentist in the same practice—have three small children. She enjoys reading, travel, the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
