Dentist of the Year Award

Dr. Nathan Suter was named the MDA Dentist of the Year on November 8 at the annual Awards Banquet.
Nathan Suter, DDS, of Crestwood, Mo., and owner of Green Leaf Dental Care in House Springs, Mo., was named the Missouri Dental Association (MDA) Dentist of the Year on November 8, 2019 at the Association’s annual House of Delegates and Awards Banquet.
The Dentist of the Year Award recognizes a member dentist who has demonstrated outstanding service to the Association, to the profession of dentistry and/or to the community in the past year. Dr. Suter’s involvement and leadership is extensive, but he was acknowledged primarily for his work to advance teledentistry in the state of Missouri.
He was instrumental in advocating for teledentistry legislation in the state of Missouri in 2017. That same year, he received a grant through a private foundation to establish Missouri’s first teledentistry pilot program. In 2019, Dr. Suter developed a teledentistry consulting business, Access Teledentistry, to assist fellow dental professionals endeavoring to improve access to dental care via teledentistry. He’s also been awarded a four-year contract with the state of Missouri to teach dentists how to implement and perform teledentistry. Also this year, Dr. Suter worked with the Missouri Telehealth Network to launch an oral health track for Show-Me ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes), which uses videoconferencing technology to connect a team of interdisciplinary experts with primary care providers. Primary clinicians collaborate with specialists in a case-based learning environment to develop advanced clinical skills and best practices.
Outside his private practice and consulting, Dr. Suter serves as the Chair of the Board for the Missouri Coalition for Oral Health. In 2016, Dr. Suter was awarded Outstanding Clinician of the Year by the National Network for Oral Health Access and the Dr. David Whiston Leadership Award from the ADA Foundation, which recognizes dentists who’ve demonstrated strong leadership skills that can be used to improve the oral health of the public in the years ahead. The award provides a $5,000 scholarship to cover costs associated with attending a leadership training program of the American Management Association.
Dr. Suter received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 2013 and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Webster University–St. Louis in 2009. He and his wife Cayla have lived in Crestwood for five years and have three children.
