MDAF Dental Scholarship Program

The Foundation awards three $5,000 scholarships to dental students each academic year. They are competitive and are based upon leadership and achievement. The scholarship program is an initiative of the MDA Foundation in cooperation with the Missouri Dental Association. We salute the 2019-2020 winners.

Awarding dental scholarships to Missouri-based students is a hallmark of the MDA Foundation. 84 scholarships totaling $246,000 in support have been awarded since 1999.

Congratulations to all the highly qualified applicants and these three recipients.

Scholarship Recipients

  • Bryce Boyd, UMKC 2021

    Bryce Boyd

A 2014 graduate of Carl Junction High School in southwest Missouri, Bryce volunteered at MOMOM 6 in Joplin and was shocked to see some old friends as patients who for many reasons faced financial challenges that made affording dental care difficult. As one largely paying her way through school, Bryce is very grateful for assistance and plans to pay it forward with her own type of scholarship after getting established.  She’s eager to find connections through organized dentistry to give back both to future dental students and her community.

  • Katie Hayes, UMKC 2021

    Katie Hayes

Katie is a 2014 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Louis. Two years later during a mission trip to Panama she had her first exposure to the power of education and collaborative community outreach. Then this past fall at a national American Student Dental Society meeting she found her niche to be an advocate for how organized dentistry can be a positive change agent. She plans to use her role as class president to spread the word.

  • Mikayla Stevens, UMKC 2021

    Mikayla Stevens

Hailing from the Class of 2014 at Liberty High School not far from UMKC, Mikayla wrote a stirring essay about her love for her hometown and her desire to help meet needs as a dentist. This love began at age 15 when she started working at Smithville Dental, Inc. She plans to use her patient centric approach and Spanish language skills to provide caring, comfortable and affordable treatment plans for her community.
