Dental Medicaid: Managed Care Updates

In Spring 2016, the State of Missouri issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) this to begin the process of moving Missouri’s Medicaid system to a statewide managed care system.

In October 2016, the State announced the three contractors chosen to expand the MO HealthNet Managed Care program to a statewide Managed Care program, beginning May 1, 2017. By the summer of 2017, Missouri’s managed care system will be operated statewide. Following are the three Managed Care health plans (and dental subcontractors):

  1. Missouri Care – DentaQuest
  2. Home State Health – Envolve (in-house company)
  3. United Healthcare – Dental Benefits Providers (in-house company)

Dental Subcontractors

Providers and patients have begun to receive information from the medical managed care and dental subcontractors related to choosing a plan. Dentists will need to determine the networks with which the dentist wants to belong and complete the necessary steps for joining the network and becoming credentialed.

Doctors wishing to request information and enroll should do so ASAP by contacting the numbers below, thus having this process complete by the May 1 deadline and realizing that Managed Care Organizations may take up to 60 business days to complete credentialing or re-credentialing of providers.

Keeping Informed

While the MDA tries to pass on information about these types of changes and updates, members who are MO HealthNet providers MUST take steps to stay informed of updates. The main way to do this is to sign up to receive electronic provider bulletins (go to site, complete pop-up request OR provide email under Email Updates on the right side of the page). You will receive ALL bulletins for all healthcare related issues; however it does clearly state “dental” when they are sending a dental bulletin or “managed care” when it is on that topic. If you have additional questions, contact State Dental Director, Dr. John Dane by email or call 573-526-3838. Additional information links follow; however, if you sign up for provider bulletins, when new items are published in these areas, the updates will be sent to you through the bulletin system.
