Dr. Charles McGinty, a general dentist in Joplin, Mo., was honored with the 2017 Missouri Dental Association (MDA) Distinguished Service Award on November 3, 2017 at the MDA House of Delegates in Jefferson City.
The Distinguished Service Award is presented to a member with a long history of exemplary service and dedication to the dental profession and organized dentistry.
Dr. McGinty’s commitment and dedication to the dental profession and organized dentistry is evidenced by his service in a number of roles in his 41 years of membership. He has served his local Southwest Dental Society as president and as its Trustee to the MDA Board. He has been the MDA Speaker of the House of Delegates and was President in 2006. He has served on the Missouri Dental Insurance Services Board of Directors and the MDA Foundation Board, for which he was Chair.
Perhaps, however, Dr. McGinty’s greatest service shines through his commitment to political advocacy on behalf of the dental profession. He served on the MODentPAC Board of Directors and as its Chair and has represented Missouri extensively at the national level of the American Dental Association. He served on the ADPAC Board in various capacities and was Chair in 2015. This past April he was honored with the Jack Wilson Award—named for the dentist who created ADPAC in 1969—presented to recognize outstanding service to ADPAC and Congressional political activity on behalf of organized dentistry.
His leadership extends to his community where he served on the Joplin R-8 School Board and Missouri Southern State University Board of Governors. His volunteerism includes work with the Salvation Army, Joplin Chamber of Commerce, local churches and other charitable efforts.
Dr. McGinty received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1977 and his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Missouri-Rolla in 1973. He continues to practice at Associates of Dentistry, located at 410 Pearl Avenue in Joplin.
Dr. McGinty and his wife, Donna, have four children and seven grandchildren.
