Food for Thought Relaunch

Yes, that's me in a jester hat with jingle bells on it. But let me explain. It was all for the MDA!
Today, we launched this year's edition of our Food for Thought program at UMKC. It's a series of 6 lunch events at the dental school featuring speakers and content of value to students. It's our way of meeting and establishing relationships with our future members and it's one of my favorite things to do.
For the students, it's a real bargain. Your $10 MDA student membership entitles you to 6 great lunches plus exposure to leaders in the profession. And we give away money at every event building right up to National Signing Day in April when the prizes and giveaways get really big.
At the end of last year, we polled student leaders asking how to make FFT better. The result was that we need to make it quick, high energy, with good stuff to hear and prizes to win. We have done just that. Every speaker this year will be a New Dentist sharing about their experiences "on the other side" of graduation. There are no Powerpoints or lectures. Just real life interaction between member and student member.
Today we kicked it off with a class competition to see how much the students knew about the MDA. I'll be polite and just say we have some education still left to do! But Sierra, Cyrus, Seth, and Brett were good sports to compete and everyone learned something. Plus Brett won candy for his entire 4th year class since he clearly dominated the competition.
It was a great start. I;ll post photos and updates after all the other FFT's. Our next one is 10/22 featuring Dr Cyndi Ulrich.
