Winter Session 2013 Ends Big Week!

Winter Session 2013 rocked along as the crowning jewel to a busy week in organized dentistry. More than 200 member dentists, staff, vendors, and guests convened in Columbia for two powerpacked days of content, variety, and connection. The event, with lead sponsor MDIS, featured 10 CE selections, an EFDA training, and exposure to a host of reliable vendors who support the profession. Toss in the meals and cocktail hour and there's plenty of chance to connect with colleagues and work on professional development. Kudos to Mandy Lewis for leading the charge to deliver a quality event. This year she even led us in going green as all handouts for the classes were only available in paperless form.
A new feature this year was a member forum where members could gather to hear the MDA's position on workforce and to voice concerns or questions about other issues near to their heart. Almost the entire MDA board was in attendance to listen to member feedback. President, Dr. Lynne Barbour, and President-Elect, Dr. Merle Nunemaker, facilitated the discussion that lasted more than an hour. I was struck by the passion for the profession. If an association is only as strong as its members, then the MDA is doing just fine. Good ideas and strong emotions were voiced from a diverse group in attendance.
The Winter Session wrapped up a full week of activities including the MDA Legislative Reception, an MDA Board meeting, new board member orientation (Welcome, Drs. Kessler, Rapini, Raman, and Nail), an MDIS board meeting, a MO Dental Board meeting, and meetings for the Governance Task Force, Legislative Regulatory and New Dentist committees. The activity level is up and running for 2013 so get involved and make a difference!
