CDCs Tips From Former Smokers Campaign to Begin

CDC's Tips From Former Smokers campaign will air its new national TV ads starting on Monday, July 7, and will run for nine weeks. The new ads will feature new health conditions related to smoking. Please share the Tips-related information below and attached resource with your key staff and partners.

Previous Tips ads showed the illness and devastation caused by smoking and were proven to be effective in saving lives, helping people quit, and decreasing the huge economic burden caused by tobacco use. The new Tips ads promise to be just as powerful.

ADA Voices Opposition to New Medicare Ruling

Under a new rule published in May by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), dentists who treat Medicare-eligible patients have until June 1, 2015 to either enroll in Medicare as a provider or opt out of the program in order to prescribe medication for qualifying patients.
On March 5, the ADA sent a letter to CMS voicing its opposition to this ruling because it "places an unnecessary burden on dentists and their Medicare eligible patients," and it will not address the law's underlying rationale of stopping fraud and abuse in the Medicare program. Unfortunately, CMS did not heed the ADA's advice.

New ADA.org Health Insurance Resources for Members; Open enrollment closes March 31
Securing the right health insurance for members can be challenging. Many state dental associations offer health insurance options for their members and now the ADA offers the new ADA-endorsed American Health Insurance Exchange (AHIX) which launched February 14. The 2014 open enrollment period closes March 31 so members can access this new resource in advance of the close date. Go to www.ada.org/healthinsurance to view this very important member resource.
