Flowcharts help members more easily navigate sedation permit application process

Your MDA staff has completed its review of the sedation rules and has published on the MDA's FAQ section reference material designed to help dentists better understand what is required to apply for and/or renew a moderate sedation permit, a moderate sedation site certificate, a deep sedation/general anesthesia permit and a deep sedation/general anesthesia site permit. ADA Paper Addresses Bringing Disease Prevention in Oral Health to Communities

This past December, the ADA published its latest paper on oral health disparities in underserved populations. Prior papers were published as "Breaking Down Barriers." The brand has now been changed to comport with the Action for Dental Health campaign. Action for Dental Health: Bringing Disease Prevention into Communities is the first of two that will address the importance of disease prevention. It focuses on a broad array of programs nationwide targeting tooth decay and gum disease, the two most prevalent dental problems, both of which are almost entirely preventable. ADA Develops Dental Checklist for Patients, Health Law Navigators

The ADA has developed a tool to help patients choose dental plans right for them. The checklist can also help the navigators appointed to help consumers negotiate the complexities of the new health care exchanges. The checklist is available on ADA.org. In addition, patients can visit MouthHealthy.org for consumer information about choosing a dental plan under the Affordable Care Act. You may wish to consider adding this information and link to your website to help patients through this process.

New ADA.org Health Insurance Resources for Members; Open enrollment closes March 31
Securing the right health insurance for members can be challenging. Many state dental associations offer health insurance options for their members and now the ADA offers the new ADA-endorsed American Health Insurance Exchange (AHIX) which launched February 14. The 2014 open enrollment period closes March 31 so members can access this new resource in advance of the close date. Go to www.ada.org/healthinsurance to view this very important member resource. In addition, the ADA will be scheduling a webinar to review the new member resource page and discuss details of the ADA-endorsed AHIX.
