FFT Finale Frenzy!

Today was the final Food For Thought lunch event for UMKC students and we might have saved the best for last. Maybe it was the good food from Jason's Deli. Maybe it was the speaker line up of Dr and Dr Darren and Sarah Mahaffey who shared real life scenarios of what it's like to be a new grad out in the real world. Or maybe it was the fact that it was National Signing Day and MDIS was giving away prizes and MDA was giving away $250 cold hard cash to one lucky male and one lucky female fourth year student. Whatever it was, the crowd was large and vocal and appreciative.
We had a record 45 applications from 4th year students. This is huge for our future. It's key to track with them and help them plug into organized dentistry once they turn the tassel. Congratulations to Amber Valentine and Clark Chaney for being the big money winners. Many others came away with all manor of gift certificates and cash. And a special thanks to the Mahaffeys for their time and the connection they made with the students - many of whom will soon be their colleagues.
FFT is a strategic tool in our association's lifeline to future membership and leadership. I always enjoy relating with the "next wave". Mandy, Jerri from MDIS, and I are consulting with student leaders and discussing ways to improve every aspect of the FFT so that next year we will be back better and larger than ever. See you then!
